[Announcement] Introduction of forum geo-lock, wtf china?

Hello everyone,

 

We have since yesterday been geo-locking a bunch of asian countries on the forum to prevent them access to the site aswell as site registrations.

 

Over the past few weeks we noticed some odd activity on the auth servers that seemed very unnatural, we shrugged it off as possibly being a bug on the backend providing us some very unrealistic numbers, until we got word that there were CD auth keys being sold on the chinese market. 

 

We decided to ban the forum accounts and auth keys that were being sold(less then 10 accounts), and thought yay! We cleared up some backend resources.....

 

Not so fast, we woke up to 400 new registered forum accounts(400 more then usual per 24 hours) which by the end of yesterday had peaked at 1000 new registrations, all of which were chinese attempting to generate auth keys for sale. We have banned 90-95% of all chinese forum accounts that were created, along with their auth keys, and have implemented email validation upon user registration again, aswell as geo blocking in China, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. If we see any suspecious registrations from other asian countries, like japan, we will add these to the list.

 

We dont like geoblocking but unfortunately we have had to lock out these regioons to avoid auth being completely raped by these people

Selling the keys would bring down the idea of offering the application free of charge.

 this site sold cracked buddies.And I found their cracked program just was CDpather!  It seems that they use proxy to connect the server.  And thousand of people was using it.
